The construction of a nanotube.

Here is an example of how the nanotubes were built. The first one was originally a flat chain. Using WebMO and the translate option, The bonds were bent so that a ring was formed. This was all done by eye-balling and then doing an AM1 OPT FREQ calculation. Once the tube was formed, it was extended by building another section of benzene rings out from the already existing tube, again by eye-balling instead of calculating close dihedral angles.
