A Comparison of the Electrostatic Potential of Various Diameters of Carbon Nanotubes.



For those of you who are not familaiar with what I 'm showing below here is a quick description of what you are seeing:
  • The 3-D bubbly parts are where the electrons associated with this nanotube are 95% certain to be found (at 100% we would have to include the entire universe because electrons associated with this sturcture could potentially be anywhere. It's all probability).
  • The Slice is a cross section of the election potential showing the inside of the the structure and the electron density within it.
  • The colors of the graph show electron density or probability. So the red areas are where we would expect to find electrons more often and less tightly bound and the blue has fewer electrons which are more tightly held.
  • The important thing to notice here is how the space filling model changes with the different sizes of the rings.
