Gil-Sheridan's Topsy Turvy Mouse Opens Theatre Season at Gustavus

The Department of Theatre and Dance at Gustavus Adolphus College is pleased to open the 2008-09 Anderson Theatre season with Topsy Turvy Mouse. Written by Peter Gil-Sheridan and directed by Amy Seham, this award winning play will be performed in Anderson Theatre on October 24, 25, 31 and November 1 at 8:00 p.m., with a matinee performance on October 26 at 2:00 p.m.

Folk Duo Neal and Leandra Present Coming Home Concert at Gustavus

Minneapolis folk duo and Gustavus alumni Neal and Leandra return for a special Homecoming/Family Weekend concert at the place where they met 27 years ago, Gustavus Adolphus College. With seven successful cds on the market and concert tours taking them from coast to coast, the Red House Recording artists will appear in concert on Saturday, October 4 at 7:30 p.m. in the College's Jussi Bjorling Recital Hall. Tickets for the performance are available at the Gustavus Ticket Center (507-933-7590) or at the door.

Bass-Baritone Simon Estes to Perform at Gustavus

Internationally acclaimed bass baritone Simon Estes will perform at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 3 in Christ Chapel at Gustavus Adolphus College. Estes' performance will be in lieu of the standard 20-minute daily worship service in Christ Chapel and will set the tone for a day of celebration at the College as Jack R. Ohle will be installed later that day as the College's 16th president.

Artaria String Quartet Returns to Gustavus

Minneapolis-based Artaria String Quartet returns to Gustavus Adolphus College on September 28 and reunites with Gustavus pianist Yumiko Oshima-Ryan for a concert including works by Ludwig van Beethoven and Dmitri Shostakovich. Sunday's event begins at 3:00 p.m. with a pre-concert lecture. The concert follows in Bjorling Recital Hall at 3:30 p.m. It is free and open to the public.

John McKay Returns to Open Gustavus Music Season with Piano Recital

Long-time professor of music at Gustavus Adolphus College, John McKay, returns to Jussi Bjorling Recital Hall Saturday, September 20, to present the first recital of the new school year at 7:30 p.m. Included in this performance are works by Haydn, Brahms, Chopin and the world premiere of a new work by Mortimer Barron.

Hillstrom Museum of Art Exhibits Forbidden Russian Avant-Garde Artwork

The Hillstrom Museum of Art at Gustavus Adolphus College will host two exhibitions beginning Monday, Sept. 8. Forbidden Art: The Postwar Russian Avant-Garde will be on display concurrently with Selections from the Hillstrom Collection. Both will run through Sunday, Nov. 9.

Former Director of Iraqi National Museum to Give Lecture

Dr. Donny George Youkhanna, the former director general of the National Museum in Baghdad, Iraq, will present a public lecture at Gustavus Adolphus College at 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 22. The lecture is free to all and will be given in Alumni Hall, located in the O.J. Johnson Student Union on the Gustavus campus.

With a nod to a successful past season and a determination to continue the mission of social justice on the stage, Gustavus Adolphus College announces the 2008-09 Anderson Theatre season. The season includes Topsy Turvy Mouse by playwright Peter Gil-Sheridan of the Laramie Project; Eugene Ionesco's absurdist play, The Lesson; The Other Shore, written by Chinese Nobel Prize winner Gao Xingjian; the Gustavus Dance Company in Range of Motion and, finally, Carlo Goldoni's comedy The Impressario from Smyrna.

Gustavus Faculty/Student Collaboration at Annual Fringe Festival

A group of Gustavus Adolphus College and St. Peter area students have been spending the summer inside rehearsing for a premiere performance of the play "Maggie's Magical Cat & Other Catastrophes." Written by Gustavus theatre professor Amy Seham and Gustavus senior Maggie Sotos, the play will be performed five times between July 31 and Aug. 10 as part of the 11-day 2008 Minnesota Fringe Festival in Minneapolis.

Lutheran Summer Music Returns to Gustavus

Lutheran Summer Music, a four-week summer music training program founded in 1982, returns to the Gustavus Adolphus College campus June 23 - July 20. More than 150 young musicians and an outstanding faculty of artists and musicians from across the United States will take part in this intensive educational session and present more than 20 recitals and concerts on the campus during the course of the month.
