		<title><b>"Forbidden Art" on display at Hillstrom Museum</b></title>

		<description> The Hillstrom Museum of Art at Gustavus will host two exhibitions that will run through Sunday, Nov. 9. "Forbidden Art: The Postwar Russian Avant-Garde" will be on display concurrently with "Selections from the Hillstrom Collection." "Forbidden Art" includes 76 paintings, sculptures, photographs, works on paper, and mixed media works by more than 60 Soviet artists who worked outside the official Socialist Realism manner required by the Soviet state from the early 1930s through the late 1980s. 
The concurrent exhibition of "Selections from the Hillstrom Collection" highlights works from the museum's holdings.

		<title><b>Gustavus Symphony to premiere piece at Nobel Conference</b></title>

		<description> The Gustavus Symphony Orchestra will premiere a composition by alumnus Paul Fraser '05 at this year's Nobel Conference Concert. The concert will take place on Tuesday, Oct. 7, at 8 p.m. in Christ Chapel. Fraser's new work, titled <i>Aurora Vitalis</i>, was completed in August 2008 and is based on a Hawaiian creation story that tells of the creation of the world over the course of one evening. Admission to the concert is free.</description>

		<title><b>Civil War historian McPherson '58 is Lefler Lecturer</b></title>

		<description> Jim McPherson '58, a Pulitzer Prize winner who is viewed by many as the preeminent living Civil War historian, will deliver this year's Lefler Lecture, Monday, Oct. 13, 7:30 p.m. in Alumni Hall. There is no charge.  McPherson will be in class earlier in the day and on Tuesday morning will hold an open discussion and question-and-answer event in the Jackson Center. His new book, <i>Tried by War: Abraham Lincoln as Commander in Chief</i>, which is scheduled to come out the week prior to his campus visit, will be available for sale and signing.</description>

		<description> Dr. Magnus Ranstorp '85, research director for the Center for Asymmetric Threat Studies at the Swedish National Defence College in Stockholm, Sweden, will present a public lecture titled, "The Threat of Global Terrorism," on Thursday, Nov. 6, 7:30 p.m., at Interlachen Country Club, 6200 Interlachen Blvd., Edina, MN. Ranstorp, who will be in the United States to cover the presidential election for Swedish television, will address some of the key terrorism trends and challenges for the next U.S. presidency.
